Here's the transcript of Brad's interview with Kirsten published on Jun 29, 2015. It's not 100%, but it's close
Brad: Alright, bradcooney.com in association with HTN(?) networks is absolutely honored to have on board Kirsten Fredericks who those who are Sawyer Fredericks fans know this is Mom. Kirsten, Thank you so much for joining us.
Kirsten: Thank you Brad (garbled)
Brad: Ok kiddo, you have had a life changing experience over the past few months.. um.. your son Sawyer, as we all know now, won The Voice. So I guess the first question I want to ask.. ummm.. how are things going.. how are you guys adjusting to this whole thing.. kind of paint a picture for us real quick and then we'll get into the questions.
Kirsten: Well I think we're adjusting pretty well to it... kind of taking it one step at a time and you know I'm keeping a close eye on how much he can handle and how much he cant.. in terms of (undecipherable) it's a big change for everybody, it's alot more time away from home.. you know, the other boys and my husband are kind of learning how to run the household without me a bunch of the time so that's kind of I guess it's a learning experience to everybody... everyone will be that much more capable of handling things.
Brad: yea.. so... how much does it getting used to umm.. yea just a few short months ago you could go anywhere and unless you were in your home town... they would know who Sawyer was probably, but... now everybody knows Sawyer.. so .. that's gotta be a little adjustment...that, just in itself...
Kirsten: yea um... well we know that any outing is now a public outing.. reall you know if he's not up to shaking alot of hands and talking to strangers and getting his picture taken, he does not come with me food shopping.. which you know... when he's home, he'd just rather be on the farm if he goes out, he's going to be seeing alot of people... it almost feels like work to him.. just a little bit... you know... he enjoys the support, but still, being shy, it's alot. takes alot of energy to.. you know to converse with so many people...you know
Brad: you know, when the show, during the blinds... yea yea the blinds.. I believe you said something about this is big... this is gonna be big.. um.. did you think it was gonna be this big?
Kirsten: you know, I really didn't.. um.. at the time, I... I just went oh my gosh, now we're into it.. we're in for the long haul.. and we were just getting used to having been away from home for a little while to do the blind auditions and that was like a huge adjustment for us and you know I knew what was on the schedule if he got through it was like... oh boy... so.. you know.. it was good in that sense, but at the same time we didn't really like expect the world to embrace him and his style the way that they did... we thought well...this is a mainstream TV show and everyone is going to be looking for the next pop singer.. and we were just really surprised how ready people are to hear soul folk? and more alternative music and throwback music that Sawyer was able to bring to the picture
Brad: you know and the same could be said for Josh.. Josh went so much further in the show than I thought, and not because...you know.. the guy was amazingly talented, but I didn't think he had the country that dialed into folk music.. him and Sawyer both doing that is amazing
Kirsten: Right, you know we thought.. we thought a show like this it seems like a country singer has won every time more of your country pop... like mainstream country.. it was.. it was really surprising and you know.. very heartening to see the response and the amount of love that has been sent towards him.. and Josh
Brad: yea.. good stuff man...with all the bad news in the world, it's such a breath of fresh air... to have The Voice to show that opportunities of musicians.. such a comraderie between everybody.. support.. it was a great spirit the whole season.. it'll be tough to match this season next year.. we'll see
Kirsten: it's exciting.. Sawyer and I have out here and we're going 'you know, we're not that far from the hotel' but yea we're definitely not allowed to go and visit...we miss everybody...
Brad: alright, so lets get into some questions about the record, the um.. I had alot of fans asking me to ask about it and I know there's for legality reasons you can't give us specifics of certain things, but we understand that, so lets kind of navigate through some of these.. um.. I guess one of the more popular questions was, of course, Pharrell Williams was his coach and I felt that he did a terrific, terrific job coaching Sawyer and letting Sawyer do his thing and he seemed like such a humble guy too.. so talk about that, and if you can... talk about if Pharrell will be involved with the firswt record
Kirsten: you know, Pharrell was absolutely wonderful.. is wonderful.. he's just a very, very good man.. really a kind person...who's interested in discovering things about people and letting them be themselves and let that shine.. it wa sactually a joy working with him.. and so we've still been in touch.. we definitely want to work with him...if he's available for some part of the album...we'll have to see how much he's available for...he s a very very busy man... he has said that he would be honored to work with Sawyer.. so I think it's going to come down to scheduling... and other things that have to do with the label.. and there's an awful lot of cooks in this kitchen...
Brad: what about umm...can you talk about any of the other people involved.. do you have any names yet for who will be involved or are you still working that out?
Kirsten: we're still working that out.. this visit to LA.. it's almost like a meet and greet to some extent.. Sawyer is meeting with so many different songwriters, and some of them are also producers.. the label is really just kind of getting him to meet alot of different people...to see who he works well with... he's already in the process of writing songs... they're amazingly productive.. so we'll probably end up with more songs than you can fit on an album... but it's an exciting learning experience.. and he's meeting some people that he really likes.. really gels with... I can name one. I'm just not sure about the others.. I know that I have permission from this one... we're working with Mikal Blue at Revolver Recordings and his team... he has a rotating team that we've been working with Johan Lindbrandt, and Shari Short, and Tara Lee.. it's definitely been a team that Sawyer connects well with, is very relaxed, has a great time working with them... Do I know yet whether the songs that we're working on with them are going to be the right ones for the album? can't say (chuckle) but it's been a great experience...
Brad: spinoff question on that, you mentioned about the songs.. I'm curious.. we talked a minute ago how surprised we were that the country embraced folk music as much as they did.. with Josh and of course with Sawyer going all the way on to win... has there been some emphasis or any kind of talk about Sawyer releasing a song that... stays with the folk and maybe try to get a hit single that way or is there any pressure for him to go with more of the mainstream single that maybe radio stations may be a little more quick to jump on... have y'all discussed that at all?
Kirsten: there's been.. not alot of discussion on that.. ummm... that's a tough one to explain... I think of course the label would like to have a couple of songs on the album that they feel sure will be radio hits, not necessarily you know.. pop radio.. but we do have.. we're very fortunate that right now that a number of artists that are kind of crossing borders.. like Ed Sheeran... Hozier... artists that aren't necessarily just candy pop (ed this CRACKED me up)
Brad: Ed Sheeran is one of my favorites actually, he's great
Kirsten: I mean would you put him in a folk category, I don't know but he certainly has the singer songwriter acoustic sound some of the time.. and I think Mumford and Sons Lumineers these are artists that are kind of crossing those borders and opening doors for Sawyer I think
Brad: Ed Sheeran has like a blues and soul mixture
Kirsten: and I wouldn't put Sawyer in a firm folk category either, but he's his own version of it
Brad: well Sawyer proved on the show that he can expand out of that too he did some whats that band out of NY the 3 guys
Kirsten: GooGoo Dolls?
Brad: yea GooGoo Dolls so Sawyer shows his diversity.. he can do it if he needs to...
Kirsten: Sawyer connects with emotion. he connects with intensity and dynamics of a song.. it's not a genre as much as whether it feels substantial and real to him
Brad: right.. right.. I can definitely see that when I watch his videos.. alot of emotion involved... any idea, probably not, but can you give us a ballpark figure of when y'all would like to get this album released
Kirsten: well I know what we're hoping but we're really only at the very very beginning of the whole process and so we just don't know how quickly the ball will roll once we start it and I think we're hoping to have something to release whether it's the whole album, I don;t know but we're hoping to have something to release this year before 2016
Brad: that's good.. the fans will be happy to know that by 201 6 he should have it out the record should be out by then so let's move on to some of the questions the fans asked from twitter and facebook and for those that are going to listen to this, I'm sorry but I just couldn't squeeze in 450 or 500 questions I can only pick a few and we'll have Kirsten on down the road a ways maybe to follow up with some more but the first question comes from Coti.. Coti wants to know do you have any idea how many songs may be on the album
Kirsten: well I know that it is a full length album and I think that that means at least 10.. if we can fit more on there we it does seem we have alot of material to work with here
Brad: yea the kid is 16 years old but he's been playing a long time and has a ton of originals before he even shows up on The Voice
Kirsten: (garbled) he's always writing
Brad: alright the next question is from Paula and Paula wants to know how Sawyer's life changed since winning The Voice?
Kirsten: well...it's alot more time away from home.. he is reading?... and... working with and learning from people in the music industry.. I feel like he's getting an education here that I simply could not buy.. he's 16 maybe I should have put him in a special music school or something.. he definitely.. his world is expanding greatly.. on the other hand, the farm. when we went home.. we were able to keep like just like we were at home... and we're really able to kind of shut things out.. the farming is.. keep Sawyer focused... it's hard work, he loves it... hopefully at some point e'll feel like we have the perfect balance.. right now it's like.. it's just feeling like alot of adjusting
Brad: do you find it challenging as being Mom to keep Sawyer.. I almost know the answer because Sawyer is so humble... I'm not worried about him being cocky or anything like that but... what about grounded.. what I mean by grounded...before you said you couldn't even take him to the grocery store unless he's ready to go to work shaking hands and taking pictures.. that's a big change from upstate NY playing farm markets
Kirsten: I don't think that its going to his head in the sense that he's that much special than he always was.. it's just a totally different experience for him and when I'm more protecting him from than trying to keep him grounded is.. just trying to keep him not overwork him to keep his childhood.. he's only 16... this is a huge industry... there's alot of expectations and I just want him to maintain his sense of self and not feel pulled in every direction
Brad: that's great that you're focused on that... what about school? I notice he went to home school... he's gotta keep up on his studies too, right?
Kirsten: that's a whole nother question for us but we are what's called uncshoolers.. and our whole philosophy of home schooling is it really doesn't look like school.. it's learning through life.. learning your passion... I know that he's learning so much through this year.. it's something he would not have gotten out of a textbook so
Brad: so it hasn't really changed that way much then
Kirsten: no, because we just follow the boys interests and passions and I feel that the learning happens in that world
Brad: ok lets go onto a few more wuestions from the fans Traci T wants to know if all of Sawyer's success has impacted the simplicity of your lives from what you're used to lemme rephrase that has all of Sawyer's success has impacted the simplicity of your lives.. that's a pretty easy yes huh?
Kirsten: a big yea... I've had to learn alot of new things myself just to keep up the paperwork and contracts... new people in our lives... I've been able to delegate quite a bit of that to.. he has new management and a booking agent.. and.. we have lawyers and we have a team now.. which is great... it's just early in that so I'm still kind of like.. learning the ropes of how to handle that... in terms of simplicity.. if I can say one thing I miss this summer..is my garden... my middle son Eric.. bless his heart... put in.. to the best of his ability put in the spring garden...and there just hasn't been time.. I just haven't been able to keep up with that... easy right?
Brad: but it's there.. it's your roots.. the whole thing about going on vacation for you guys though is going home.. thats vacation for you guys
Kirsten: that's the only place that I really, really wanna be
Brad: that's fair.. it really is... I think most people feel the same way... it's such an abrupt chaneg in life y'all went through
Kirsten: it was very maybe by next year I'll learn how to balance it.. he'll be older
Brad: Ok from Melissa.. Melissa wants ot know if ther'll be a single released and if ther'll be any shows after he returns from LA.. are you guys looking to book any shows soon?
Kirsten: as amatter of fact we are.. we have.. I can't tell you where exactly.. all of them are east coast.. there's going to be 1 show in July and 3 that I know so far in September and it should be very soon we'll be able to announce where those are and people can start making arrangements
Brad: will this be Sawyer opening up for other acts or will this be the Sawyer show where he's the headline?
Kirsten: um I'm trying ot think about each one.. I would say that more of them are more festival format
Brad: like county fairs where multiple bands come in
Kirsten: kinnnnda (chuckle)
Brad: cool.. alright.. alright... fans that's all I'm gonna get out of her on this one... we'll have to wait
Kirsten: I don;t think there's going to be a single released separately from the album but I think the focus is on the album right now
Brad: ok CJ CJ wants to know How wa sSawyer introduced to music... how old was he... and does he have any other interests beyond music
Kirsten: ok... well I mean... music as a thing to do or to listen to.. I would say the womb...
Brad: I'm thinking she wants to know how it was that he picked up a guitar and started playing and writing and how all of that kinda happened
Kirsten: ok so well he was always always always singing and I think he was about 8 years and he really wanted to learn guitar... and we got him a guitar and he started to learn some guitar lessons and he absolutely hated it because he couldn;t make the music he had in his head.. so .. that lasted maybe a month... and the guitar sat there .. well.. his hands were small and it was hard to make the chords.. the sounds didn't come out good and... we weren;t going to push him we just wanted him to be enjoying himself so we're like.. ok... well there's just the guitar.. whatever... and he was 11 years old and his uncle came over and was playing guitar and Sawyer grabbed his little guitar and learned 2 chords and his hands were just strong enough to make the clean sound that he wanted and that's when it started.. he had 2 chords and his song had 2 chords
Brad: hey let me ask yo uthis... this is something that just popped in my head how is it that The Voice happened.. did they see some of his stuff on youtube and contact you guys .. tell us how that happenned
Kirsten: yea so I guess he was scouted is the right word.. found him on youtube and invited us to do a.. I guess it's a private interview.. it would be the next level after the open calls... it would be like your call back...so that level and to be honest, we were like. I dunno... is that really the right thing for Sawyer? well we're not sure and I'm not big on competition... so it seems like I'm not settign him up to be like destroyed... so we just approached it as this is a learning thing... let's see what auditions feels like.. a trip to NYC yay!
Brad: Has Sawyer had a chance to talk to his idol Ray?
Kirsten: nooooo not yet
Brad: I bet he's itching to
Kirsten: I'm sure he is probably as nervous about that as he is excited you know? That would be great one day.. really fantstic
Brad: I have a feeling it'll happen sooner or later
Kirsten: well they share the same manager now so thats pretty awesome
Brad: can you talk real quick about the new management you menationed he had a new manager, a new booking agent, can you say who those people are?
Kirsten: uhh yea he's.. his management is under Mick Management with Michael McDonald.. a wonderful, wonderful man very highly respected.. we connected right away and Michael connected us to a booking agency which is United Talent Agency which I am learning is kind of a big deal
Brad: I got 2 more questions and then we'll wrap it up.. Hannah (garbled) wants to know how is Sawyer handling all this newfound fame? HOw's he doing?
Kirsten: I admire the way he's handling it... yo uknow I think he's handling it in a very real way... it's very overwhelming and its very surreal to be able to post something online and suddenly have it like appear everywhere and all these likes and comments in one minute.. so .. I like the way he's taking it in.. bits and pieces... he gets on twitter.. almost every night... he doesn;t stay on so long as hes tired.. but he's conversant with his fans and that's really .. really great... he's handling the positive and the negative comments... although the majority are certainly positive... and he doesn't let the negative stuff get to him.... he seems to be very realistic about it all...
Brad: the kid has got his act together man.. when I was his age, I was eating dirt and playing with trucks and whatever.. this kid is touring the world and he's just got his act together, it's unbelievable for his age
Kirsten: he has an amazing work ethic I was surprised on that cause I don't demand that of him.. it just is
Brad: ok Montana.. Montana wants to know if the farm has been busier business wise since Sawyer's success
Kirsten: uhh yea a little bit.. we can only handle so much growth.. a very small farm and our policies and the way that we farm, our philosophy of farming doesn't allow for like a huge jump in our growth... we want to be able to care who the animals are.. we don;t want to have too many animals... its been new on that side because we're getting more customers and that's fantstic and it's also busier there because I'm not there and Sawyer's not there so that's an awful lot of busy-ness from when we're there
Brad: that's two people they have to make up for
Kirsten: a third of the team is not there and that's those are big numbers when you're farming
Brad: and I guess there's been more people driving by just to see Sawyer's house
Kirsten: there were.. it seems to have finally quieted down a bit and I hope it stays that way... we're pretty private people
Brad: yea I feel ya on that that would get old I think if it was me
Kirsten: it happened a bit during the show and it wa sa little scary for me.. during the finale my husband was with us out here so it was just the older boys that were home and they had people coming down and taking pictures of the hosue and my son is calling me and asking what should I do and it's right before the finale.. and I told them. .yo ucan just ignore them until they go or you can just go out there and say thank you for your support but it's private property.. bye bye... you don;t really have to be nice
Brad: the more famous Sawyer gets yo uneed to really keep that in mind cuz there's some creeps out there too that you have to be mindful of.. it's just the way the world spins so... TeamSawyer there's alot of Team Sawyers out there... they want to know how does it make you as Mom feel when you see such massive support for your son
Kirsten: you know.. sometimes I'm just... kind of blown away by it... you know.. not just the support, but the people that are saying how you affect or... his music.. the way it changes their lives, you know...we get the most beautiful letters.. just.. people that are saying that they've been through certain rough times and the music is getting them through it... it really feels to me like...I said it was gonna be big.. it's bigger than us... I just think it's meant to be...
Brad: yea.. I agree.. and just my experience.. I really appreciate you guys giving me the opportunity to be a part of this too.. I feel like I'm almost the person that connects Sawyer to the fans in my own little way... I get so many emails and twitter messages and people wanting to know and what's Sawyer doing and can you give us some updates and the places that I see they're from.. I mean I've got emails from the Philippines and Ireland and all over Europe and Australia
Kirsten: you know it's just starting to air in Africa.. we now have fans in South Africa
Brad: and you said it best, it's bigger than you guys.. this is just way way.. way bigger. Well Kirsten, thank you so much for doing this, the fans will be delighted to hear this.. I really appreciate you taking out the time to do this, pass along our best to Sawyer
Kirsten: please tell everyone we're sorry he's not joining in on this but today's his only day off and I was going to guard ferociously anyway but then he got sick... he's he's he's just really nursing a really sore throat
Brad: well you tell him to rest up and feel better. do you have anything you want to say in closing to the fans out there?
Kirsten: Oh gosh... just thank you.. thank you everybody... thank you very much
Brad: Thank you so much for doing this

B: What is up Sawyer? welcome home!
S: heh heh thank you it's a good day
B: It's always a good day when you come on board, that's for sure... we go back a ways now Sawyer since the blind auditions you've come a long way huh?
S: Yes I have
B: first and foremost I want to congratulate you on all your success and congratulations on the new record
S: heh heh thank you
B: alright... so it took you a little bit of time to get this bad boy released but Monday's the big day it goes live everywhere... talk about the process.. the timing of the release... talk about that a little bit
S: I mean.. I think the timing of the release was alot of the decision of the label so that they could really introduce me as a new artist.... but I mean like the process of recording of the album was really fun because it was the first time co-writing and working with all these other producers.. and it was just a really cool experience
B: so it's almost like The Voice win The Voice was great which is awesome.. we don't want to water that down at all... but was the mindset for as far as the label goes is to reintroduce you.. is that what you're talking about?
S: yea I think so... like a lot of time they really try to get out the album from like The Voice winner now as quick as possible to keep riding that publicity... but I think they really just wanted to introduce me as a new artist to show that I'm not like... I'm able to stand without like The Voice support... I'm not putting down The Voice at all... I mean I'm so grateful for everything I love everyone there... I'm just happy that I can.. the label is doing this for me
B: I get that, I really do... I think that The Voice is awesome, again, I'll reiterate what you said.. this is no slight of The Voice at all.. what The Voice does is phenomenal for artists... but I like the fact that it's almost like phase 2 for you... phase 2 here's Sawyer this is what his originality is all about... this is what his songwriting is all about... because let's face it, on The Voice you have to sing covers for the most part and you get to do your own thing now...
S: umm hmmmm
B: alright! So lets talk about the tour... you just announced a west coast tour of course promoting your record A Good Storm and I'm seeing alot of cool dates here and places... I'm seeing Tucson Arizona May 7th May 8th I'm seeing Albuquerque, New Mexico and May 10th Denver, Colorado May 11th Aspen, Colorado so like you're going to be one travelling cat.. so talk about the tour
S: yea I'm really excited about that because I'm gonna be working with my band and we're all gonna be in a van together, it's gonna be a really cool experience... it's just gonna be really fun
B: Also Mia... is Mia in on the tour as well?
S: yes she is joining me and I'm really excited for having her with me because she's such a great friend and I admire her so much with her music and all her songwriting.. I'm just really excited to be able to spend more time with her
B: how sick is her vocal range?
S: heh heh heh so sick
B: you could shatter a wine glass with her voice
S: heh heh
B: so where does everybody go to learn more about the tour I just read off a few dates but they can go to your website so what's the website?
S: it's sawyerfredericks.com and you can find all the tour dates on that and.. everything
B: there it is folks just go to sawyerfredericks.com and definitely check out Sawyer as he comes to your city there's a bunch of them on there.. I encourage you to do that.. so lets move on, let's talk about Pharrell Williams a little bit of course he was your mentor and coach on The Voice and he's also involved on your record lets talk about that a little
S: getting him to... I mean I'm just so happy that he;s supporting me through this whole thing and I got to work with him on the show, but getting to work with him on some of my own work is amazing just because he's an amazing producer and being in the studio with him was really cool... to be in his own environment.. and really like.. on the show... I'm losing my thoughts here heh heh
B: yea it was like more of a more personal.. more one on one-ish is that what you're trying to say?
S: yea definitely
B: so was there any wow moments to where you like your song.. you had it in your mind one way but when Pharrell was done with it and you were like wow... did that happen at all?
S: uh yea most definitely.. I mean it's definitely the Pharrell version... it's got alot of really cool stuff, but I mean I also appreciate the original version of it.. just because the way I write the songs I really want to keep every piece in it and keep all the lyrics because I'm very very picky about my lyrics and yea
B: one of the things Pharrell did really good for you I thought when he was coaching you on The Voice was he pretty much let you be you and you have mentioned that yourself.. so did that also apply when you were working in the studio?
S: I think so, yea... it's still me and it's my song and I'm still singing from the heart and enjoying the music but I think he adds his own style to the song which I appreciate and I think it really showed a different side of me...
B: awesome stuff, man.. so lets talk about the album cover.... the design.. who designed that and what's the meaning behind the album cover?
S: heh heh umm Lissy Elle designed it and she was taking photos and basically actually that photo was not planned ot be the album cover but we just liked it so much that we decided to have it as the album cover.. we found this storm drain and I was like "I gotta get down there... we gotta get a picture" heh heh I mean like Lissy Elle is the great photographer and she did all of these really cool edits with it and I'm really happy with it
B: so what's up with A Good Storm? I live in Mississippi and we don't like bad thunderstorms down here of course I'm playing but what's the meaning behind A Good Storm the title
S: I love when a storm comes up on the farm just cuz you can see it for like.. miles away... and watching it come across the fields is like.. ominous and very beautiful but I mean I think A Good Storm shows alot of what my music is... heartbreaking.. yet beautiful...
B: very well said.. I get it also I was joking a minute ago cuz like in Mississippi we get like crazy tornados and severe hail and lightning that's not the kind of storm you're talking about... you're talking about one of those storms you hear off in the distance.. the rolling thunder at night.. the peaceful raindrops that hit the roof.. one of those summer night storms in the distance right?
S: yea I love the downpours as well heh heh heh
B: alright he's got a little rebel in him... I hear you man... yea that's good stuff... so I wanna go back to.. let's rewind lets go back in time a little bit.. when you reflect back to your blind audition which I still remember to this day it was amazing everybody's spinning their chairs at the same time in like 2 seconds and then you look to where you are now... describe the journey in a few words from the blind auditions to where you are now releasing your debut album
S: well that's gonna be a tough one.. let me think
B: you can use more than a couple of words
S: I think the process has just been a great learning experience... I mean starting off singing Man of Constant Sorrow on The Voice and getting to meet all these other artists and going forward through the show and working with Pharrell and meeting all the coaches and I think it was just an amazing learning experience and then like after the show ... great things and all good stuff that was just put in front of me it's such a blessing.. with the producers I worked with and my band and just it's just a real blessing and I think I've grown as an artist...and as a musician
B: how are you doing with the whole fame thing? is that getting any easier for you? as far as being approached for autographs and pictures everywhere you go?
S: yea it definitely got alot easier for me... I haven't really been out much lately just because I'm enjoying being on the farm and anywhere I'm going is one of my family's houses or.. here heh heh
B: right
S: I think I've gotten used to it now
B: that's good man, you know it's gonna be a long happy road it's gonna be a good storm.. a good storm...
S: heh.. yea
B: you know you're not only a great singer I mean I love your vocals, you're also a really good guitar player and you're also a brilliant songwriter
S: thank you!
B: you're welcome! it's true.... how do you decide on which songs to put on a record you have a ton... before you got on The Voice I watched your Youtube stuff and you have a million different original songs.. what is your filter process to actually select one for the album?
S: a lot of it is like what songs I've written recently that I'm like really into but also my mom helps me decide and everybody else helped me decide the songs on the album and I think it was really big team effort... the picking which songs but there's alot of planning like which songs will go into others very well and make it an actual journey going through the album
B: is there any songs on the record that you believe will get some mainstream radio play across the country?
S: I don't really know .. I'm not really sure like whats appealing to mainstream right now so I don't really know.. I hope alot of them do but... we'll see
B: it's tricky.. it's about timing.. what's in demand at the time and your genre also.. there is quite a few radio stations that do play your genre so I'm pretty sure you'll have something .. some climb man.. you're a good chart climber.. you got that experience
S: heh heh heh
B: alright so we're gonna do some fan questions man
S: alright
B: I got a ton of them man and you know how fan questions can be unpredictable but we think we've picked out some good ones for you
S: okay
B: alright so the first question is from Zoey and you're probably gonna recognize some of these passionate fans that follow you everywhere
S: Oh yea!
B: Zoey wants to know what made you want to label the title of your new album A Good Storm
S: I think it was just a song that really meant alot to me it's alot of what I was saying before about how a good storm is beautiful yet heartbreaking... but I think it was just because it's a song that I wrote when I was younger... I really connected with the lyrics and I felt like it was the perfect name for the album
B: good stuff.. ok the next fan question is from Ren and Ren wants to know what song on the record would you say is the most important to you and why?
S: I would say it's probably Still Here or A Good Storm just because it's purely me and I really enjoy just the raw... just me and my guitar and as heartbreaking in the songs.. the emotion...
B: ok.. I don;t know if I'm pronouncing this one right or not but not forgive me if I'm not... Roimeister? Roimeister? I think that's it... Does or will your band have a name?
S: umm.. I mean if they want one they can have one heh heh heh
B: have you thought of any names? do you want to tag em or no?
S: uhhhhh I haven't
B: you have Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band so you need Sawyer Fredericks and the whatever band think of something
S: heh heh heh
B: alright Rahayuni I think that's pronounced correctly.. she wants to know what was the most challenging part of making the new record.. that's a good question so I'm kind of curious about that myself
S: there's alot that goes into the record but I think the most challenging part for me was the co-writing cuz working with other artists.. I mean sharing something very personal to myself and singing it in front of others and I think the writing process was the hardest part for me and of course recording to a clip because I never ever did that before heh heh
B: do you ever get nervous still? I mean you look so relaxed and you're in your own world like you're in your own stratosphere when you sing but is there any nerves still?
S: I don't think I get really nervous on stage anymore but the last time when I was performing Take It All on The Voice I think it brought back alot of nerves from being on the show so I think that's the only stage I get nervous on now
B: have you had a chance to look at this season at all.. of The Voice
S: I have been watching it a little bit and there's alot of great artists and some really cool music on there
B: can you say a few of the ones that you like?
S: I don't want to change the outcome heh heh heh
B: I like Adam Wakefield.. I'll say it... that guy is.. got that southern rock thing going down so I like him.. speaking of The Voice do you know who told me to say hello to you? Blind Joe he sent me a message the other day to say hey man and thanks for .. he wanted me to thank you for plugging him on twitter the other day
S: ahh no problem
B: cool man... alright next question from Char or Shar and again forgive me if I pronounce that wrong "when will announce dates for the next leg of your tour?" after this west coast do you have stuff lined up for like the south.. I live in the south and I have alot of people hit me up like hey man Sawyer Fredericks better come down here in the south in the southeast too
S: yea I mean it's kind of hard to tell because there's alot of planning that goes into it and I don't really know heh heh heh so I'm not really sure what to say
B: you need to go back to your label and say yea man.. Memphis, Nashville, Jackson, Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Jacksonville, Florida yea there's alot of big cities in the south that would love Sawyer music so put a little heat on that label.. alright.. Coti.. you know Coti, I know Coti, everybody knows Coti... Coti's a great girl I think she lives in South America I believe down there somewhere... she wants to know how do you feel about releasing your first album... that's kind of a simple but good question... how does it feel man? it's done now
S: well it's not my first album but
B: well your first one from Republic
S: like the first album I made was when I was like 14 and it was just in a guy's basement and it was all independently made but the first album with like a real record label and working with other musicians I mean like I'm just so proud I could put out something like really meaning in music that I created and seeing it come to life with a band and all the other musicians... it's just a great journey
B: now your cousin is playing with you also right you bring him along for the ride?
S: yes he is heh heh heh
B: well it's important to you and it's important that you have that camaraderie and people you've played with before to go out on tour with
S: most definitely
B: yea man.. Shannon King... Shannon King is a big fan of yours and I want to give Shannon some credit with helping me out with this interview too she helped me with some of these questions.. she wants to know if you had to describe your album in one word what would it be? other than awesome.. we all know it's awesome but pick another word
S: alright.. let me think... uhhhhh one word huh... hmmm... "good" heh heh heh
B: good.. it's all good.. it's a good storm.. good stuff... it's probably a relief to get it all done too right?
S: yes it is
B: alright Sawyer that's it for the fan questions before I let you go I wanna I always give you an opportunity to share some closing thoughts, talk about your website, talk about where people can get the record, share your social sites... all that stuff
S: well you can pre-order it all.. I mean pre-order the album at sawyerfredericks.com and on Friday we'll be giving everybody who pre-ordered the song and instant grat of the original version of 4 Pockets
B: nice... that's good stuff is there anything you want to tell your fans in closing out there?
S: really just thank you for all the support and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them
B: alright so there you go folks Sawyer Fredericks came back on to the Brad Cooney podcast and I really appreciate you doing that.. it's almost like you're part of the family here.. we got you early in the game and look man when you get those platinum selling records we still want you to come back now... don't forget us
S: Oh I will heh heh heh
B: Sawyer thanks alot man I really appreciate you doing this
S: oh no problem, I'm happy to do it
