MIGHT BE BRIGHTER
Lyrics and music by Sawyer Fredericks
You don't want to step back
You don't want to move forward
You just wanna stay
You just wanna stay
Where you're at
Looking at the stars again
Thinking that one of them
Might be brighter
But you know,
I can't go this trail again
I can't be your man
Forever
I can't keep doing this
Over and over again
You're on a cruise ship
Going nowhere
How can you call this living
You don't want to step back
You don't want to move further
You just wanna stay
You just wanna stay
Where you're at
Looking at the stars again
Thinking that one of them
Might be brighter
Might be brighter
Get into your car again
Listen to the same song
And the same person
Nothing different
I can't go this trail again
I can't be your man forever
Can't keep doing it
Over and over again
You're on a cruise ship
Staring at the stars again
How can you call this
Living
But you don't want to step back
You don't want to move forward
You just want to stay
You just want to stay
Where you're at
Looking at the stars again
Thinking that one of them
Might be brighter
But you know
I can't go this trail again
I can't be your man
Forever
Forever

The story behind this song is kind of neat. People often ask where Sawyer comes up with the lyrics- they often have subjects he hasn't experienced directly, being only 12. His usual answer is "I watch a lot of TV." LOL. But this song was written during an argument his older brothers were having. They were at a point where no one could be flexible or compromise and Sawyer was worried the fight would get physical, because the emotions were running so high. He removed himself to his room and wrote a song about them, but tweaked the story line so it's about a romantic relationship instead. The argument ended well, in case you were worried. You can hear Sawyer's frustration, exhaustion, and sense of hopelessness in the song. Good therapy, I guess. Oh- and this is my new camcorder- hope the sound and video are noticeably better!!"
