Memorial fund made to honor Sean Craig, who accidentally drowned in Great Sacandaga Lake over the weekendAMSTERDAM- Eighteen-year-old Sean Craig followed the mantra love the life you live. His older brother Justin Craig reflected on his helpfulness and compassion for other people. “We created this because Sean loved helping people out. He never had a bad thing to say about anybody,” Justin Craig said. The family is in the process of creating the Sean Craig Memorial Fund to support search and rescue efforts as well as dive operations in Fulton and Montgomery counties. Craig accidentally drowned in the Great Sacandaga Lake over the weekend. Officials recovered his body Sunday evening about 400 feet west of the I Go Inn Restaurant. Justin Craig said his brother loved everything about the lake. He also mentioned that he enjoyed being employed at Alpin Haus. The teen was a 2015 graduate of Broadalbin-Perth Central School District and was studying entrepreneurship at Hudson Valley Community College. The family has been working with Fulton County Sheriff Rich Giardino and Montgomery County Executive Matt Ossenfort to research where funds could be used to benefit search and rescue efforts. Justin Craig was gracious to all the agencies who helped to locate his brother. However, he noted that Fulton County does not have their own dive team. “If we could help save someone else or find them sooner. We need this in our hometown. We need the equipment that the other lakes have. We don’t have our own dive team,” he said. Giardino said he is working with Montgomery County to see what types of equipment they could get, such as Sonar. “This is trying to make a positive thing out of something negative,” Giardino said. Prior to the formation of the fund checks can be made payable to Justin Craig, with Sean Craig Memorial Fund noted in the memo and mailed to P.O. Box 424 Tribes Hill N.Y. 12177. Donations can also be accepted directly at NBT Bank in Hannaford Plaza Amsterdam N.Y. “This is something our whole family is backing. I just would like to be able to have the opportunity to help someone else. We don’t want other families to have to go through something like this. It’s the least I can do for him,” Justin Craig said. content.leaderherald.com/?p=605053/Memorial-fund-made-to-honor-Sean-Craig--who-accidentally-drowned-in-Great-Sacandaga-Lake-over-the-weekend.html
